How do you write about something you love? Something that’s more than just a hobby—it’s a purpose.
When I was about 14, the deputy principal at my boarding school in Roskilde, Denmark, asked me during lunch: “Daniel, what do you think you’ll do for a living one day?” I replied: “I don’t know, but it will be something to do with computers.” She said, “Yes, I think so too.”
And she turned out to be right. Trine, you were right! I’m now 42, and technology has shaped my entire life. I’m lucky to be married and father to two wonderful small kids who keep me grounded in what really matters. It wasn’t just about using it—it was about building it, developing it, and being deeply involved in countless exciting projects.
I have a lot to tell, and I often realize that people today experience technology very differently than I do. They are users or enthusiastic “experts,” but they don’t see the Internet and technology from a builder’s perspective—how it actually works and how completely it has woven itself into our everyday lives.
Through this blog, I want to share my perspective and exchange ideas with others. I’ll take a clear-eyed and independent look at technology, but also at the environment it creates and what it does to us as humans.
I very much hope you’ll find my blog useful and recommend it to others. And, of course, I’m always happy to exchange ideas with you and the community I hope will soon emerge.
Technology explained by someone who lives it, for people who need to understand it.
