Vintage computer from the mid-1990s era when the internet had only 50 million users - representing the technological starting point of a three-decade journey in tech innovation

Three Decades of Tech Revolution, One Entrepreneur’s Perspective

My name is Daniel Schoenland. I’ve been working with technology since the mid-nineties. That certainly doesn’t make me a dinosaur—there was a time before me—but I would say I’ve experienced quite a lot.

When I started on the Internet, there were only around 50 million users worldwide. Today, there are 5.6 billion. The sales made on the Internet today alone would have been unimaginable back then.

And yet, here we are. That famous Internet that once started with AOL and other ISPs trying to lure people to their computers. We made it.

Why I’m Writing This

I’ve been part of many revolutions. From the first online communities to hosting and networks. From the rise of cloud platforms to today’s super topic: AI. I’ve watched brilliant innovations succeed and fail, seen technologies overhyped and underestimated, and learned firsthand how the gap between Silicon Valley promises and real-world impact can make or break everything.

Now I want to share some of those experiences with you. These will be current topics, but also thoughts on broader issues. I don’t claim to be writing journalistically here—these are my thoughts, my observations from the trenches, and I want to share them with people who are trying to navigate this rapidly changing landscape.

What Makes This Different

This isn’t analysis from the sidelines. This is perspective from someone who’s actually been building, failing, learning, and building again through multiple technology waves. When I talk about the evolution of cloud computing, I was there managing servers and watching the first AWS instances spin up. When I discuss AI’s current trajectory, it’s informed by having seen similar hype cycles play out over decades.

The Human-Centered View

Here’s what three decades in tech has taught me: the best technology doesn’t replace humans—it amplifies us. The most successful innovations aren’t the ones that eliminate human judgment, creativity, or connection. They’re the ones that enhance these uniquely human capabilities.

Whether I’m discussing the latest AI breakthrough, analyzing a promising startup, or predicting where technology is heading next, I’ll always keep this perspective: How does this actually serve people better?

What You Can Expect

Real-World Applications: Instead of getting lost in technical specifications, I’ll focus on practical impact. How will this technology change how you work, hire, compete, or serve customers?

Honest Assessment: Not every innovation is revolutionary. I’ll celebrate genuine breakthroughs while calling out overhyped solutions that solve problems nobody actually has.

Future Preparation: Technology moves fast, but patterns emerge. I’ll help you spot what’s coming next and position yourself—and your business—to thrive in tomorrow’s landscape.

Entrepreneurial Insights: Building technology companies teaches you things you can’t learn from afar. I’ll share those hard-won lessons, from product development to team building to navigating the inevitable pivots.

The Road Ahead

Over the coming weeks and months, I’ll dive deep into the technologies reshaping our world. Artificial intelligence that enhances human decision-making. Automation that frees us for higher-value work. Platforms that enable new forms of creativity and connection.

I’ll examine promising startups, analyze successful strategies, and occasionally take calculated risks on bold predictions. Sometimes I’ll be wrong—and when I am, I’ll own it and share what I learned.

Most importantly, I’ll keep the conversation grounded in reality. Because at the end of the day, technology only matters if it makes life better for real people solving real problems.
